  13. These light green colored things growing on this tree is called lichen. Lichen is a fungus that grows with algae, and makes crusty patches on trees, rocks, ground, etc. They are widespread, and can live a really long time.

  14. This ant found on the lettuce from our garden is an example of an animal that has a segmented body. Animals with segmented body have their bodies divided into different functional units. This ant's body is divided into 3 sections: the head, thorax, and abdomen. Each sections have different functions.

  15. Niche is a role each organism plays in the population within their ecosystem. These butterfly and bee are playing their role by carrying pollen from flower to flower.

   16. Those butterflies and bees are also an example of a pollinator. A pollinator carries pollen from anther to stigma (male to female) of the flower, completing fertilization.

 17. In this picture, I tried to show the anther and filament of the stamen. The outer dark brown circle is all filled with many stamens. Stamen is the male reproductive organ of a flower, and also where pollen is produced and carried until a pollinator comes and takes it to another flower. Anther is the "head" of stamen where pollen is produced, and filament is stem-like stock that is attached to, and holds up, the anther.

  18. My dog Summer is an example of a K-strategist, as well as humans. K-strategist reproduce later in life, but tend to live longer than the R-strategists. They also only reproduce a few at once. They use a strategy where they try to ensure their offspring's survival by focusing on quality over quantity. The parents take good care of the children, and the offspring usually cannot survive on their own until they reach adulthood.

  19. This ladybug in our garden is an example of introduced species. Introduced species are organisms that come to a new area from their native place, and change or modify themselves to the surrounding ecosystem. Ladybugs were originally brought to United States from Asia.

  20. These plants are examples of frond. Fronds are large leaves with many divisions.
