Milk is an example of simple carbohydrates. Milk contains lactose. Lactose is a type of simple carbohydrates. Lactose intolerance is when the body can't easily digest lactose. Lactose is found in dairy products. People who are lactose intolerant can't consume much dairy products.

Pasta is known as complex carbohydrates. When digested, all carbohydrates become glucose. All types of pasta noodles are complex carbohydrates. All carbohydrates are fattening, but we need some carbs in our diets. Its also important to eat a variety of foods that don't contain carbohydrates to maintain a healthy diet.

These peanuts are an example of complex carbohydrates. All nuts are examples of complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates is a carbohydrate that consists of two or more monosaccharide units.

Pickles are an example of complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates aid in food digestion and keep energy levels even. The body breaks down carbohydrates to make glucose.

Sugar is an example of simple carbohydrates. Sugar is also known as sucrose. Simple carbohydrates are more fattening then complex. Sugar is often found in desserts and sodas. However, there are some sugar free products on the market, if you are trying to maintain a healthy weight.

This picture shows an example of lichen. Its a type of algae that grows on some trees. A lichen is a symbiotic association between a fungus and a photoautotroph.

Moss is an example of a sporophyte. Sporophyte is a spore- producing body of a plant or multicelled algae. Moss grows in cool, damp places. The moss in this picture is growing on a rock.

The inner layer of the bark on a tree is an example of phloem. Phloem is the plant vascular tissue that distributes photosynthetic products through the plant body.

Grass seed floating in water is an example of seed dispersal. Seed dispersal is how seeds move from one place to another. Seeds can be spread by either water, wind, or by an animal. This is an example of seed dispersal in water.

This cactus is an example of a modified stem of a plant. The stem of a cactus is transformed to help the plant. The cactus stem is specialized to save water.

Groupings
5 Different Types of Carbohydrates
1. Oats are an example of a fiber carbohydrate. Fiber carbohydrates help your digestive system, and also whole wheat, fruits, and vegetables are examples of fiber.
2. Chicken is an example of a glycogen carbohydrate. Glycogen can be broken down into glucose for energy which can be found in meats.

 3. Honey is an example of a monosaccharide carbohydrate. Monosaccharides are carbohydrates made only of one molecule, and are less common, but still can be found in some foods such as this one, honey. Honey gets it sweetness from fructose and glucose.
4. Table sugar is an example of a polysaccharide carbohydrate. Table sugar contains different molecules together, making it a dissacharide or polysaccharide.
5. Pasta is an example of a starch carbohydrate. Starches consist of tubers or grains, other examples of starch carbohydrates are rice, corn, barely, and potatoes.

Carrots are an example of asexual reproduction. Most plants produce this way, meaning offspring comes from one parent only.

An example of a unicellular organism is yeast, which is most commonly found in bread. Yeast is an example of this because it is an organism that is uni, or only has one cell.

Tomatoes use the Calvin cycle. The Calvin cycle is a light-dependent reaction of photosynthesis that forms glucose from CO2. Many plants use the Calvin cycle.

This toad stool is an example of a spore. A spore is a small single-celled reproductive body that is resistant to heat and is capable of growing into a new organism. Other examples of a spore includes moss, ferns, and fungus.

This is an example of pollen. This pollen blow off trees and flowers and landed in water. Pollen is the white stuff that flies through the air in late spring as all the trees lose their blossoms.

Fish are an example of hydrophilic. Hydrophilic means water loving or dependent on water for survival. Tadpoles are another example of hydrophilic.

This picture shows the auxin producing area of a plant. The bud of the flower is the auxin producing area of a plant. The flower bud stimulates cell division and elongation.

Yogurt is an example of something that has eubacteria. Eubacteria cells break down food in the digestive system.

These ferns my grandpa and I found are an example of a frond. Fronds are large divided leaves.
The centipede on the piece of wood is an example of a detritovore. Detritovore's are also called detrophages or decomposers, because they decompose parts of plants and animals that are dead and organic.

This swarm of ants is an example of a population. They are a population because they are living together at the same time, and are the same type of species.

My friend Kaitlin's "silkies" which are a type of chickens are an example of a heterotroph. Heterotrophs cannot make their own food, and they depend on others to make their food,

Mushrooms are an example of mycelium. Mycelium is the vegetative part of fungus's.
This green, crusty stuff that always grows on trees is what is called lichen. Lichen grows in the wilderness with algae, and is a type of fungus,
This chopped piece of wood is an example of cambium. Cambium is the tissue layer of trees and plants. It has reproductive cells that stimulate the growth of the tree and without cambium, the tree can die. It can be found in layers (or rings)  in between in the bark.

My cousin's hermit crab is an example of a littoral zone organism. The hermit crabs regular habitat is on the beach, in the ocean, and in between both on the shore making it one.

These flowers are an example of ATP. ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate. For metabolism, ATP helps transport energy through cells in flowers.

This picture shows an example of Pollen. The pollen is located on the anther of this flower. Pollen is the powdery, fertilizing element of flowering plants.

Mackenzie Gooden

I opened up this flower to give a better view of the stamen. The Stamen is the male reproductive organ of a flower. The Filament is the stalk like part that holds up the Anther of the Stamen. The Anther is the part that holds the pollen for the pollinators to reach.

This is a picture of a tree stump in my back yard. Because it is cut down you can see the Cambium which is the cellular plant tissue from which phloem, xylem, or cork grows by division in wood plants which is what causes thickening.

Mackenzie Gooden

This a leaf from a tree in my front yard. It has a smooth kind of waxy layer covering it called a Cuticle layer. The cuticle layer is a non-cellular layer that covers the epidermis of the leaf, and helps to keep the leaf from drying out.

Bread is an example of Fermentation. Fermentation occurs when yeast is introduced to flour and ferments the carbohydrates, leaving behind carbon dioxide, which makes the bread rise.

Mackenzie Gooden

This is a picture of the skin on my arm, also known as Epithelial Tissue. Epithelial Tissue is the membranous tissue covering your internal organs. Your Epithilial tissue helps to protect your internal organs and other internal surfaces of the body.

An apple is an example of a plant that produces ethylene. It is a hormone in plants that helps the plants growth properly, such as the apple ripening.
A tomato is an example of a genetically modified organism. This means the DNA of the tomato has been changed by injection of chemicals through the process of genetic engineering.

A starfish is an  example of radial symmetry. Since it has radial symmetry that means it can be divided into halves at any angle according to its central axis.

These tadpoles are an example of an ectotherm. An ectotherm is an animal that stays warm mainly by absorbing environmental heat by basking in the sun.

My dogs are examples of eukaryotes. They are organisms who has enclosed organelles. They have a nucleus and a membrane. All animals, plants, fungus, and protist are examples of eukaryotes.

An example of mycelium is this puffball. All types of fungus are examples of mycelium. Puffballs can be found anywhere in the woods.

This butterfly on the flower is an example of mutualism. Mutualism is an interaction where both species benefit. The flower gets pollinated and the butterfly gets nectar.

These ducks are examples of an endotherm. An endotherm is an animal warmed mainly by its own body heat. All mammals and birds are examples of endotherm.

Samantha Freed

Moss and ferns are examples of Spores. They are the only land plants that dispose spores.
