Grapes are an example of something that contains gibberellins. Gibberellins are plant hormones that help stimulate growth, and help the plants function correctly.

21. Strawberries are examples of plants that have asexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction does not involve meiosis or fertilization, and new strawberries are formed from just a single parent. In asexual reproduction, the "offsprings" are usually exactly same as the parent since no genetic material is exchanged with another.
22. Corn is one example of a C4 plant. During C4 plants' photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is first fixed into a compound containing 4 carbon atoms before entering the Calvin cycle. They need less water than the C3 plants. Only 1% of earth's plants are C4 plants, and they usually grow in hot, dry environments.
23. Cuticle layer of a plant is the non-cellular, outer protective layer of plants. It's like the skin of the plants. It gives support, covers the epidermis of the plants, and protects plants against UV radiation, desiccation, and different agents. This leaf in the picture is covered with a cuticle.
24. This is an example of gymnosperm cone - male or female. Gymnosperms are plants that doesn't have seeds inside a fruit or flower. Instead, those plants uses these cones to hold the seeds of the plants. Gymnosperm literally means “naked seeds”.
25. This spider is an example of a r-strategist. R-strategists produce huge number of offspring at once. They mature in a short amount of time, reproduce at a young age, and have a shorter lifespan. The young doesn't get much help from their parents, and mostly fugyre things on their own. They put quantity over quality.
26. This picture of the avocado seed growing can be an example of a rhizome. Rhizomes are underground stem that sends out roots and shoots. They are also called rootstock.
27. This picture contains many many parenchyma cells. Parenchyma cell is thin-walled cell that forms the primary tissue of plants. Internal layers of leaves, parts of stem, soft parts of fruits, and many other things are all made of parenchyma cells.
28. Gibberellins are plant growth hormones that influence plant function and development like stem elongation, fruit growth, and seed germination. Watermelons and grapes are both able to grow with the help of gibberellins.
29. This picture contains xylem. Xylem is a compound woody tissue that conducts water and nutrients upward from the roots, and also provide support for the tree.
30. Corn are often a good example of a genetically modified organism. Genetically modified organisms are organisms whose genetic characteristics have been changed by insertion of a modified gene or a gene from another organism. This is all done by genetic engineering.
31. Eye color is an example of dominant vs. recessive phenotype. My mom has brown eyes while my dad has blue eyes. Since brown eye color was dominant over blue eye color (the recessive trait), the offspring (that's me) was born with brown eyes.
Hey guys! I've updated your grades on my grade sheet from the biology collection. Some of you guys are almost done! Woo hoo! 1 week and a half until you guys start back to school (1 week for me). I hope you guys have been able to keep up with your assignments and enjoy your summer.
Just a reminder that the following are due he first full day of class:
Just a reminder that the following are due he first full day of class:
- Biology Collection (50 pictures)
- Assigned reading assignment from the textbook (check previous emails to see corrections)
- Assigned reading and questions from "Survival of the Fittest"
- Class supplies
If you have any questions or concerns AT ALL, email me at EBeverage@access.k12.wv.us
Looking forward to seeing you....I have a betta fish lab planned for you in the first full week of class!!

This is a picture of an ant population that is on my hummingbird feeder. A Population is a group of individuals of the same species in a specified area.
This is my brother holding my sisters baby, Lindsey. This is an example of Altruistic Behavior, because Lindsey can not hold herself up yet my brother is holding her up so that she does not fall. Altruistic behavior is the act of helping another with no physical benifit to yourself.
This tree is an example of Tropism. Tropism is the turning of all or part of an organism in a particular direction in response to an external stimulus. This tree has grown down hill towards the sunlight so it could get all the sunlight needed to grow properly.

Archeabacteria is a bacteria that is found in extremely hot environments. I took a picture of boiling water because it is an extremely hot environment.

This is a picture of me holding fish after a day of fishing with the family. Fish are examples of an Ectotherm, ectotherm is an animal that depends on external sources of body heat.
I took a picture of my dogs claws as an example of an Adaption of an Animal. An Adaption of an Animal is a feature that helps an animal to adapt to certain situations. Dogs claws are used to make protecting themselves easier.
In this picture my mom is pointing to her appendix. The appendix is an example of a Vestigial Structure which means it was once used for something but no longer has a functional part in the human body
.
This tree is an example of a K-Strategist because it is
long lived. They also reproduce later in life, and mature slowly.
Canola Oil represents something that is Hydrophobic. This is because it is incapable of being mixed with water. When you try to mix oil and water the oil just lays on top of the water.
I know that my bracelet isnt in this picture but I didnt think I would need this picture for biology. When I went to the Outer Banks this summer I found a Jelly fish washed up on shore I know its not a good picture but I promis its a Jelly fish! I am using this Jelly fish as an example of Radial Symmetry. Radial Symmetry is when a species is the same all around.
Dogs are Heterotrophs this is because they can not create thier own food they rely on other sources.
This flower is an Autotroph. Autotrophs are able to form their own organic substances in their surroundings.
Glycogen is an energy molecule that is stored by cells for later use. Sugar is a good example of Glycogen.
Amniotic Eggs are an egg from reptiles, birds, or any egg bearing animal.

Because when mixed with water it dissolves, Salt is an example of Hydrophilic.
Oranges are an example of C3 plant because it uses the Calvin Benson Cycle to fix Carbon.
